The Giant Spear Lily and particularly the rarer ‘palmeri’ form is sought after for landscapes for its unique flowerheads, tough upright, clumping habit, and large bright green, sword-shaped leaves. Doryanthes palmeri is a succulent perennial – one of only two species in the genus Doryanthes endemic to NSW. Tall Flower spikes – up to 5m – tower above the leaves and display amazing elongated clusters of large red flowers that are often so heavy that the flower stem bends over. This species makes a stunning feature plant in any garden and is also good for large containers.

Soil: It is suited to most soil types, including nutrient-deficient soils.
Conditions: Best in partial shade but will tolerate full sun. Coast, drought, and frost hardy.
Size: Height 3m x width 2m. Flowers up to 5m
