How to Grow Fothergills Oh Sow Simple ‘Large’ Tomato:

  1. Prepare the Soil:
Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth. Add compost or well-rotted manure to improve soil fertility.

  2. Sow the Seeds:
Start seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Plant the seeds about 1 cm deep in trays or small pots. Keep them in a warm place, ideally between 18-22C, to encourage germination. Transplant the seedlings outdoors once the frost risk has passed, and the plants are large enough to handle.

  3. Transplanting:
When transplanting the seedlings into the garden, space them about 40-50 cm apart to allow for good airflow and room for growth. Make sure to plant them deeper than they were in the pot, burying the stem up to the first set of leaves to encourage strong root development.

  4. Watering and Feeding:
Water the plants regularly, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. Water at the base of the plant, keeping the leaves dry to prevent fungal diseases. During the growing season, feed with a balanced fertiliser to ensure the plants get the nutrients they need to grow strong and produce large tomatoes.

  5. Harvest:
Tomatoes are typically ready to harvest when they are fully ripe, deep red, and slightly soft to the touch. Gently twist or cut the tomatoes from the vine to avoid damaging the plant. Harvest regularly to encourage further fruiting and enjoy fresh, delicious tomatoes throughout the season.

Fothergills Oh Sow Simple ‘Large’ Tomato is the perfect variety for those who want to enjoy the full, sweet flavour of homegrown tomatoes. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned gardener, this easy-to-grow tomato variety will provide you with large, delicious tomatoes all summer long.
