If youre looking for a plant that begs to be touched and adds a whimsical texture to your garden, Kitten Ears (Cyanotis somaliensis) is your go-to choice. This charming evergreen perennial forms a lush, low-growing carpet only 3 to 6 inches tall, making it an exceptional groundcover or a spilling “softie” for mixed containers. It thrives best in bright, indirect sunthink of that dappled light under a porch or a spot that gets gentle morning rayswhich keeps its signature fuzzy, olive-green leaves vibrant. The best part for those of us living near open spaces? Its dense coating of fine white hairs makes it naturally animal-resistant, as deer and rabbits generally dislike the “furry” mouthfeel. It is a resilient, water-wise addition that brings a sense of playfulness to the landscape while standing up to the local critters.
